Etudes are designed as a bridge between technique and solo pieces. They can be assigned to work with a specific difficulty, or as a more general preparation for playing.
Feuillard's FinestThese etudes are more technical than melodic but they are pure teaching genius. Great for students in middle school and older.

De'ak, Popper's Student!A must-play book of intermediate and early-advanced etudes by a student of the great David Popper. De'ak seems to have written these etudes to prepare his own students to play the Popper etudes.

Great cello study books!Losche abbreviated etudes and interspersed them with his own exercises resulting in an efficient and playable series of study books. Book Four focuses on the often-neglected 6th and 7th positions.
